Teachers: Online Collaborative Creativity Challenges
The Challenge: Each student or team must “add value” to a ubiquitous household object (such as a pad of Post it® Notes) in six days. Value can be measured in any way each student or team wants. Examples: social value, entertainment value, environmental value, monetary value, personal value, etc.
The Imagine it! Creativity Challenge includes a 1-min. inspirational video; dozens of learning video clips; plus the 45-min. documentary film about creativity and innovation. You may want to select “judges” from the community to help determine the winning videos in various categories. Note that you can easily substitute Post it Notes for other ubiquitous household objects such as rubber bands, Popsicle sticks, scotch tape, paper clips, etc. The point is to give students an object which at first appears to have little value. Then challenge your students to create value from the object. This is a great way to get your students to use their creativity, challenge their assumptions and actually engage in innovation. 1. Show the imagine it! Post it Notes Documentary film and/or the 1-min. inspirational video to inspire your students. 2. Start the Creativity Challenge by giving students their “object” and instructions. 3. The challenge can be as long as you wish. Most Imagine it! Creativity Challenges are completed in five (5) days with the videos submitted on the final day of the challenge. 4. Students then make a video about how they created value from their object. 5. You can award prizes for a wide variety of categories including: -Most Value-Added -Most Entertaining Video -Best Collaboration -Most Creative
